Who can apply

  • Age limits: under 21 for associate and bachelor's, under 30 for master's, under 35 for PhD.
  • Minimum academic achievement: 70 percent for associate and bachelor's, 75 percent for graduate programs, and 90 percent for medicine, dentistry and pharmacy.
  • You must be a graduate, or finish your current studies before August.
  • Graduate scholarships in health sciences are not awarded. Your field must be recognised in your country.

Deadline

Applications are open once a year. The 2026 round ran 10 January to 20 February 2026 and the Application Calendar lists the same window as the yearly General Application Period. Dates for the next round are not yet announced, check turkiyeburslari.gov.tr from December.

Deadlines move a little every year and some close early. Confirm the date on the official page before you plan around it.

Documents you will need

  • Valid ID card or passport
  • Photograph taken within the last year
  • Diploma or temporary graduation certificate
  • National exam results, if you have any
  • International exam results such as GRE, GMAT or SAT, only if your chosen program requires them
  • Language test results such as TOEFL, only if your chosen program requires them
  • Research proposal and a written sample of your research (PhD applicants only)

How to apply, step by step

  1. Step 1: Check the criteria and programs

Read the Criteria and Scholarship Programs page for age limits, minimum grades and which programs are open to citizens of your country.
  2. Step 2: Prepare your documents

Scan the documents listed in the Application in 5 Steps page. Choose your universities and departments only from those offered in the system.
  3. Step 3: Apply in TBBS

Create an account and apply online at the Turkiye Scholarships Application System (tbbs.turkiyeburslari.gov.tr) during the application window. Applying is free.
  4. Step 4: Evaluation and tests

An expert committee reviews eligible applications. Undergraduate candidates sit a 30-question maths, geometry and logic test before the interview. Shortlisted candidates are interviewed by a committee.
  5. Step 5: Result and transfer

Selected candidates are placed at a university, take the one-year Turkish course, and then move to their degree. Awardees without a C1 Turkish certificate must attend the course, even for English-taught programs.

Conditions if you accept

  • Awardees without a C1 Turkish certificate must complete the one-year Turkish language course and reach C1 by the end of that year.
  • Scholarship can be reduced or ended for academic or conduct reasons. See the Scholarship Procedures section of the official site for the terms.

Tips for a stronger application

  • Do not leave it to the last days of the window. The system is busy and incomplete applications are not considered.
  • Pay attention to the exact age cutoff for your level. It is checked on the application.
  • Rank your university and department choices thoughtfully. Candidates may only pick from the list offered to their country.
  • The official site shows more than one version of the stipend and exam thresholds in older pages. Rely on the Full-Time Programs page and the current announcement.

Student visa guides

Winning the award does not include the visa. Plan your application with our guide for the host country.
