Relocation cost simulator

Work out what a skilled migration or permanent residence move costs your family, from the first test to your first salary. See government fees, third-party costs and living costs apart, what you pay before you travel and the funds you must show but do not spend.

Step 1 of 5: Route

Which route are you taking?

Typical figures are filled in for you, so you can click Next and adjust only what you know.

Federal Skilled Worker, Canadian Experience Class and Federal Skilled Trades through Express Entry. Settlement funds apply unless you have a valid job offer or work in Canada already.

Estimated so far

CA$17,352about US$12,254

Canada, Express Entry (permanent residence), 1 adult. It updates as you answer.

Indicative only. Nothing you enter here is saved or sent.

How it works

  1. Choose a route and your family

Pick from Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom, Germany, New Zealand, Ireland and Portugal, then add the adults and children moving with you.

  2. Tick what you still need

Language tests, credential checks, medicals, police certificates and translations are switched on. Untick what you have done. Adjust flights, short-stay housing and months before your first salary.

  3. Read the full picture

See every fee with its official source, totals in the route currency and in yours, the split between before and after travel, and any settlement funds to show.

Questions people ask

Are the government fees official?

Yes. Each government fee was checked on the official immigration site on the date shown, with a link beside it. Fees change, often each year, so confirm the amount on the official page before you pay.

What are funds to show but not spend?

Some routes, such as Canada Express Entry without a job offer, ask you to prove you hold a set amount of money for your family. You keep it and use it to settle, so it is shown apart from the costs.

Why do living costs before the first salary matter so much?

They are often the biggest single cost. Moving without a job offer can mean several months of rent and food before you are paid, so plan for more months than you hope to need.

Does this include what my employer pays?

No. Costs that the law puts on the employer, such as the UK Certificate of Sponsorship and Immigration Skills Charge, are left out. An employer must not pass those to you.

Can it tell me if I qualify?

No. It adds up costs only. Use the Canada CRS calculator, the Australia points calculator or the Germany Opportunity Card check to see where you stand, and book a consultation for your exact case.

Want a person to check your plan?

An adviser can review your documents, funds and timeline with you and tell you what to fix before you apply.
