Germany Opportunity Card check
The Opportunity Card (Chancenkarte) lets you look for work in Germany for up to a year. Check whether you qualify with a recognised qualification or on points, and how much money you must show.
Step 1 of 7: Your age
Your answers stay in this page. Nothing is sent until you choose to share your result.
How it works
Pick your route
A fully recognised qualification needs no points. Everyone else needs a qualification, basic German or good English, and 6 points.
Score your points
Partial recognition, experience, German, English, age, past stays and a partner who applies with you each earn points under German law.
Plan your funds
See the monthly amount the German mission asks for and the total for the months you plan to stay.
Questions people ask
What is the difference between full and partial recognition?
Full recognition means a German authority found your qualification equivalent to a German one. You then count as a skilled worker and need no points. Partial recognition means it is partly equivalent and you would need to close gaps. That earns 4 points.
Can I work while I hold the card?
Yes. You may work part-time for up to 20 hours a week on average, and do trial work of up to two weeks at a time with a possible employer.
How do I show the funds?
With a blocked account, a formal declaration of commitment from someone living in Germany, or a part-time job contract in Germany. The amount must cover every month of your planned stay.
How do I apply from Nigeria?
Through the German Missions in Nigeria. You apply online, then attend an appointment for your biometrics and pay the national visa fee. Check the mission's current process before you book.
Does this calculator store my answers?
No. It runs in your browser. We count anonymous results, such as the route and points, and never your name or contact details.
Want a person to check your plan?
An adviser can review your documents, funds and timeline with you and tell you what to fix before you apply.
