  • African citizens of Angola, Kenya, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Tanzania and Tunisia could apply in the 2026 call. Other African countries were not on the list.
  • You need a first-cycle (bachelor's) degree obtained no earlier than two years before the call, and no previous master's degree.
  • You need English at B2 for English-taught study, or Polish at B2 for Polish study (B1 for the preparatory course path).
  • You must apply separately to a participating Polish university, because NAWA does not handle admissions.
  • You must not hold Polish citizenship or have applied for it.

Deadline

Annual call. 2026 round: announced 13 April 2026, closed 8 May 2026, 3 pm CEST (earlier if a country group's application limit was reached). The next call had not been announced on 17 October 2026; a spring 2027 call is likely but not confirmed.

Deadlines move a little every year and some close early. Confirm the date on the official page before you plan around it.

Documents you will need

  • Passport data page
  • Bachelor's diploma with supplement showing grade average and grades
  • Language certificate
  • Short self-presentation video
  • University admission documents as required by your chosen Polish university

How to apply, step by step

  1. Step 1: Watch for the call

Check the NAWA Banach page for the next announcement and its country list, as the list and quotas can change.
  2. Step 2: Choose a path

Pick the Polish-language path (with or without the preparatory year) or the English-language path, and a participating university.
  3. Step 3: Apply to NAWA

Submit the application in the NAWA system at programs.nawa.gov.pl in the group for your citizenship (Nigeria is in Group 4 in 2026).
  4. Step 4: Apply to the university

Register in the university's international admissions system within its own deadline, with language proof.
  5. Step 5: Results

Selection results for the 2026 round were due by 31 July 2026.

Conditions if you accept

  • Study must be full-time and start in the winter semester of the call year.
  • You cannot hold a previous NAWA scholarship for second-cycle studies.

Tips for a stronger application

  • Apply as early as possible, because the call closes early once a country group's limit is reached (Nigeria shares a small group).
  • Get your language certificate and diploma supplement ready before the call opens.
  • Applications are for a specific winter semester, so check that your graduation date fits the call's degree-date rule.
