  • You must be a citizen of a Chevening-eligible country. Cameroon was not in the standard country list when checked, so confirm your country on chevening.org/apply.
  • You need at least two years (2,800 hours) of work experience gained after your undergraduate degree.
  • Your undergraduate degree must qualify you for a UK master's and be completed at least two years before the application deadline.
  • You must apply to three different eligible UK courses and hold at least one unconditional offer by the offer deadline (8 July 2027 for the 2027/28 round).
  • You must commit to returning to your country for at least two years after the award. You cannot hold British citizenship or have studied in the UK on a UK government-funded scholarship.

Deadline

Applications open in August and close in October each year. The 2027/28 round has already closed (October 2026), so the next chance is the 2028/29 round expected to open around August 2027. Check your country page for the exact date.

Deadlines move a little every year and some close early. Confirm the date on the official page before you plan around it.

Documents you will need

  • Online application with four essays (leadership, relationship-building, course choices, career plans), in English.
  • Names and contact details of two referees at application. Two reference letters are uploaded only if you are invited to interview, at least seven working days before it.
  • Degree certificate, needed by the interview stage.
  • Passport details and a full education and work history entered in the online system.

How to apply, step by step

  1. Step 1: Check your country page

Find your country on chevening.org/apply and confirm it takes part and when the deadline falls (the time is 11:00 UTC).
  2. Step 2: Register and pass the eligibility checker

Create your profile with an email and phone number and answer the eligibility questions. Keep your unique access code safe, as you need it to return to your application.
  3. Step 3: Complete the form

Fill in personal, education and work history, referees, your three UK course choices and the four essays. You do not need to have applied to the universities before submitting.
  4. Step 4: Submit before the deadline

Check every section is marked complete, accept the scholarship conditions and submit.
  5. Step 5: Interview and university offers

Shortlisted applicants are notified from mid-February 2027, with interviews in March to April. If selected, you must secure an unconditional offer from one of your chosen UK universities by the offer deadline.

Conditions if you accept

  • You must return to your home country for at least two years after the scholarship ends.
  • Flights, visa cost and allowances cover the scholar only, not dependants.
  • Awards depend on obtaining UK entry clearance and medical clearance.

Tips for a stronger application

  • Start writing the essays early and keep them concrete. Reviewers look for leadership, networking and a clear plan for impact at home.
  • Count your work hours carefully. The online system checks the 2,800-hour rule, and part-time or unpaid roles count only as actual hours worked.
  • Pick courses you can realistically get into, because an unconditional offer is needed by July. Apply to the universities promptly after you submit.
  • Beware of anyone charging a fee to apply or improve your chances. Chevening does not charge application fees.

Winning the award does not include the visa. Plan your application with our guide for the host country.
