What it pays

Monthly allowance of EUR 1,200 for master's and EUR 2,000 for PhD (from January 2026), plus international airfare, health insurance, housing support and tuition exemption at public institutions. Lasts 12 to 36 months.

Fields: Any field

Who can apply

Open to most nationalities

  • You must be a foreign student. The programme says 115 nationalities have taken part, and its rules list any exclusions, so read the rules for your country.
  • Age limits: up to 29 at master's level and up to 35 at PhD level.
  • You cannot apply alone. Only French higher education institutions can submit your file to Campus France.
  • Study must start between 1 September and 30 November of the award year, and the start date cannot be postponed.
  • Priority fields apply. Check the programme rules for the current session.

Deadline

Calls open around 1 October and French institutions send files to Campus France in the first week of January, with results in March. For 2026 the deadline was 8 January 2026 and results from 30 March 2026. Campus France has not published the 2027 session on the pages checked, and one third-party site gives 6 January 2027, so confirm with your target institution.

Deadlines move a little every year and some close early. Confirm the date on the official page before you plan around it.

Documents you will need

  • Documents are collected by the French institution that nominates you. Expect degree transcripts, CV, motivation letter, recommendation letters and your admission or application to the French programme, and confirm the list with the institution.

How to apply, step by step

  1. Step 1: Choose French programmes

Pick master's or PhD programmes at French institutions that take part in the Eiffel campaign, and apply for admission as the institution requires.
  2. Step 2: Contact the international office early

Ask whether the institution will nominate you for Eiffel. Institutions set their own internal deadlines, which are well before the January date.
  3. Step 3: Submit documents to the institution

Give the institution your complete file. It uploads applications to Campus France on a platform that only institutions can access.
  4. Step 4: Wait for the results

Campus France publishes results from late March. Nominated students then prepare their visa and travel.

Conditions if you accept

  • Tuition fees are not paid by the programme, but holders are exempt from tuition at public institutions for national diplomas.
  • Holders must start on time, as the start date cannot be postponed.

Tips for a stronger application

  • Ask each institution about nomination in the summer. Institutions may nominate only a few students, and their deadlines can be in November.
  • Apply for admission first. A strong admission file is the basis for nomination.
  • Use the programme brochures and the Campus France rules document for your session to check priority fields and age limits before you write to schools.
  • Email candidatures.eiffel@campusfrance.org only for programme questions. Campus France does not take student applications directly.

Winning the award does not include the visa. Plan your application with our guide for the host country.
