Who can apply

Open to most nationalities

  • Liable to pay tuition fees (EU/EEA citizens do not pay fees and are not eligible)
  • Applying to an Aalto bachelor's or master's programme in the regular admission round
  • Among the highest-achieving applicants under the programme's evaluation criteria
  • Rolling-admission programmes such as Business Analytics do not offer the scholarship

Deadline

Master's applications for autumn 2027 run from 7 December 2026 to 5 January 2027 (as listed for programmes such as Mechanical Engineering). Master's results are published on 30 March 2027.

Deadlines move a little every year and some close early. Confirm the date on the official page before you plan around it.

Documents you will need

  • Aalto admission application on Studyinfo.fi with the scholarship section completed
  • Motivation letter (programmes suggest about one page, around 500 words)
  • CV with supporting evidence for listed experience
  • Transcripts, degree certificates and the grading scale of your university
  • English language proof and AI use declaration as required by the programme

How to apply, step by step

  1. Step 1: Pick a programme

Check the programme page for its 2027 evaluation criteria and confirm it has an autumn 2027 intake.
  2. Step 2: Apply during the window

Submit your application between 7 December 2026 and 5 January 2027, applying for the scholarship in the same admission process.
  3. Step 3: Upload strong documents

Add your motivation letter, CV, transcripts and grading scale; the scholarship goes to the top applicants on these criteria.
  4. Step 4: Accept the terms

If awarded, agree to the scholarship terms by the stated deadline or the scholarship is not valid.

Conditions if you accept

  • Full-time study following your approved personal study plan
  • At least 45 ECTS per year is needed for residence permit renewal; falling below can end the scholarship
  • Progress is reviewed each spring and issues must be fixed by the end of April
  • Tuition only; you must cover living costs yourself

Tips for a stronger application

  • The quota is very small and some programmes award none, so check past scholarship information for your programme.
  • Write a programme-specific motivation letter that names courses or research groups at Aalto.
  • Do not skip the CV; Aalto says leaving it out hurts your evaluation.
  • Note that some programmes, such as the Finance master's, have no autumn 2027 intake.

    Amsterdam Merit Scholarship (AMS)

    Pays
Set per faculty each year. Example: the Faculty of Science awards one AMS of EUR 26,125 for the September 2027 master's start, paid in monthly instalments. It is a grant, not a tuition waiver, so you still pay full tuition.
