Multilateral scholarship, European Union (EACEA) with the African Union

Intra-Africa Academic Mobility Scheme

EU-funded mobility scholarships to study or train at another African university, applied for through each funded university consortium rather than EU or AU.

What it pays

Scholarship support from the consortium includes a living allowance, insurance, contribution to travel and visa costs, tuition and participation costs, and sometimes research costs. Amounts depend on the mobility type and duration and are not published centrally.

Who can apply

Citizens of African countries

  • Be a national and resident of an African country.
  • For master's or doctoral mobility, be registered at, admitted to, or a graduate of a higher education institution in Africa.
  • Study or placement takes place in an African country other than your own.
  • Each consortium sets its own rules, fields and partner institutions, and some only accept students from its member universities.

Deadline

Set by each funded consortium. EACEA has announced a 2026 call for new consortia with an online info session on 28 October 2026, so new scholarships will appear later. I could not confirm the call deadline.

Deadlines move a little every year and some close early. Confirm the date on the official page before you plan around it.

Documents you will need

  • Each consortium sets its own list. Expect transcripts, CV, motivation letter, passport and proof of admission or enrolment.

How to apply, step by step

  1. Step 1: Find funded projects

Browse the list of selected Intra-Africa projects on the EACEA scholarships page.
  2. Step 2: Open the consortium website

Check its programmes, entry requirements, scholarship terms and deadlines.
  3. Step 3: Apply directly to the consortium

Follow its instructions. EACEA does not take applications from individuals.
  4. Step 4: Ask your international office

If you already study at a participating university, its international relations office can help.

Conditions if you accept

  • You can only study in an African country other than your own.
  • Terms vary by project, and projects selected in 2020 may have different conditions.

Tips for a stronger application

  • Check whether your own university belongs to a funded consortium, since many calls favour their own students and staff.
  • Watch consortium websites, because calls open at different times of year.
  • Apply only through the consortium website listed on the EACEA project page, and be careful with third-party sites that claim to sell places.
